Meta Gains Two More AI Researchers from OpenAI for Superintelligence Lab

It seems like the talent war in the AI world is just heating up! Word on the street is that Meta has managed to snag two more researchers from OpenAI, according to sources cited by Wired. We're talking about Jason Wei, who will be joining Meta’s new Superintelligence Lab, and possibly Hyung Won Chung as well. I mean, it's a big deal when key people jump ship like this.

Apparently, both Wei and Chung's profiles on OpenAI's internal Slack are already deactivated. That usually suggests that they're definitely moving on. It's like when you update your LinkedIn profile before telling your boss you're leaving – everyone knows what's up!

Mark Zuckerberg is clearly on a mission to catch up in the AGI (artificial general intelligence) race. To do so, he is trying to attract top tech talent with some seriously impressive compensation packages. If you want the best, you've got to pay for the best, right?

Wei's background is pretty impressive. He focused on o3 and deep research models at OpenAI, and before that, he was working on chain-of-thought research at Google. Chung, who also spent time at Google, worked on deep research and OpenAI's o1 model. His focus is on reasoning and agents.

The interesting thing is that Wei and Chung reportedly had a close working relationship. That is a good reason why Zuckerberg might have wanted to bring them both on board. It's like building a dream team – you want people who can work together seamlessly. Perhaps Zuckerberg is betting on established synergy to boost Meta's AI efforts!
