Sun Day: Jack Dorsey's new app helps you track sun exposure and vitamin D

Health & Fitness

Jack Dorsey, never one to rest on his laurels, is back with another app – and this one's quite a departure from his previous ventures. Just a week after launching Bitchat, the peer-to-peer messaging app, he's unveiled Sun Day, an app focused on monitoring your UV exposure and vitamin D intake. It feels like there's always something new coming out.

Unlike Bitchat, which uses Bluetooth for internet-free communication, Sun Day is all about harnessing the power of location data and personal information to give you insights into your sun exposure. It asks for details like your location, clothing type (e.g., "light (shorts & t-shirt)"), and skin type (offering six options). From there, the app displays the current UV index, the day's high, sunrise and sunset times, and crucially, your burn limit – how long you can safely be outside before risking sunburn.

I think it's pretty clever, actually. I mean, who really pays attention to the UV index? We all know we *should*, but life gets in the way. An app like Sun Day might actually make that data more accessible and relevant to our daily lives. By tracking your UV exposure, the app also estimates your vitamin D intake while you're outdoors, which is a nice bonus. It sounds like a great tool for sunny days!

For those interested in checking it out, Sun Day, like Bitchat before it, is currently available in beta via TestFlight. You can head over to the Apple App Store and see if there are any slots available to try it out.
