Windows 11: Adaptive Battery Saver Mode for Laptops is Under Testing

Software
Microsoft is trying out a cool new trick in Windows 11 that I think you'll appreciate, especially if you're always on the go with your laptop. We all know the pain of watching that battery percentage drop faster than we'd like, right? Well, it seems like Microsoft is finally doing something about it with a smarter energy-saving mode. Instead of just kicking in when your battery is low, this new "adaptive energy saver" will actually look at what you're doing on your laptop. Is it just light browsing? Or are you running some heavy-duty applications? Based on your workload, it'll intelligently turn on or off the energy saver mode. The cool thing is that it won't dim your screen brightness, making it far less intrusive than the current energy saver.

How it Works

So, what exactly does this new mode do? Well, it seems it'll be disabling things like transparency effects and stopping apps from running in the background. Also, those pesky Windows update downloads will be paused, and some apps might not fully sync. But here's the best part: it does all of this without making your screen look like it's about to go into power-saving hibernation. Microsoft's Windows Insider team mentioned that this feature will be opt-in and will adjust energy saving based on the device's power state and system load. That's awesome! It's currently being tested with Canary Channel Windows 11 testers, so I'm guessing we'll see it roll out to everyone later this year. It's worth noting that this adaptive mode will only be available on devices with a battery, so no love for desktop PCs on this one. However, Microsoft did bring the regular energy saver mode to all PCs last year, meaning even desktop users can save a bit on their electricity bills. Every little bit counts! I am looking forward to this feature, hopefully it's well executed.
